"It's the kiss of death," he said.

"I don't care. It's the best thing that's happened to me in years."

"But are you going to get yourself killed?" he asked. "That's what I've been told."

"I'll take that risk. If she's too good to be true, then I'll deal with it. I don't want to spend my later years wondering what could have happened."

"You don't think something's wrong with her? Something abnormal?"

"Like I said, I don't care. She's that good."

He turned his back and glanced bank offhandedly. "I give up. I tried my best. But if she's as bad as I'm told, it's going to be your friends and family dealing with the aftermath."

"Hello?"

"Caitlin? It's me."

"It's so great to hear from you! Are we still on for Thursday night?"

"Yes, about that, I was actually wondering if I could see you sooner."

"Like when?" she asked.

"Like tonight - can I come over?"

"Don't you have work tonight?"

"Yes, I do. But I don't care about that. I'm giving it up for more time with you."

"That's wonderful - you really do love me!" she said. "So see you at eight?"

"How about now?"
